I have no idea how I got to the point where I am on a DIET.
What, me? Thin, skinny me?
Oh that’s right an accidental glimpse in a mirror as I pass by reveals the image in my head bears little resemblance to the reality.
Somehow, when I wasn’t looking I gained weight. Slight gains over a long period of time culminated with the bathroom scales flashing a figure which made me very uncomfortable.
As you know the exercise thing didn’t go well, I swear that treadmill could have featured in a Stephen King novel, it had a murderous intent I was lucky to survive.
So I decided to pick my battles. Give up on exercise and turn my attention to my diet. An addiction to salty chips and sweet lemonade has been my downfall.
I sign up to have my calorie controlled breakfast, lunch and dinner delivered to my front door.
I’m over week in and it’s probably best not to speak to me, in fact don’t even look at me. Work colleagues are turning a blind eye as I crunch into apples and sip on bottles of water. They realise one comment about the missing soft drink and chips could send me over the edge. There is support “good on you for trying to be healthier” and encouragement “I think you are looking thinner”. The one telling me I look thinner is lying but frankly that’s the safest option at the moment.
So far I haven’t lost a gram. I refuse to accept that the couple of lapses … oh all right … the two cupcakes, two packet of chips and my “half full” glasses of lemonade that I surreptitiously consumed have any bearing on the lack of success. I’m not sure why I’m being surreptitious about it, after all I voluntarily went on this diet, the family couldn’t care less. Well except for the fact that my “I’ve got my dinner, you’re on your own folks” attitude is wearing a bit thin with them. I’ve been asked why I don’t just sign them up too, these stick insects on a calorie controlled diet they would have disappeared in a week!
So it will be two weeks next Monday with another two to go. Hopefully, I’ll least feel a slight loosening of the trousers by then.
Maybe I need to go for a walk, you know, out in the real world, away from the treacherous treadmill. Although out there in the wild anything could happen. There are hills, dangerous dogs (seriously that yappy Chihuahua up the road is vicious, vicious I tell you), and let’s not forget the weather – it’s cold people – I could get hyperthermia.
Just the thought of it makes me need a little lie down.

Never start on a Monday – That means it is born to failure 😉 – Start a diet on Wednesdays or even better right away. Just buy a lot of vegetable and fruit and start eating that instead of … ermm.. cookies or what else you eat or drink between the meals – but I am sure you have heard that a lot of times by now – The most important thing is to feel good.
Kind regards Mariane

So that was my mistake – the start day!

I can really identify with where you are at. I started riding a bike to help with keeping the kilojoules at bay. It is great because I can exercise and “earn” the right to have a treat to eat!
Janine says
Well done on the bike riding. I’m probably safe walking, I’ve never been really steady on a bike.

You are right!!! It is far to cold to go outside and exercise!!!
Janine says
Absolutely.

I need to do this concept with spending less money. Your salty chips and sweet lemonade is equivalent to my love of spending money. Maybe we can try attempting this together.
Janine says
Right you on a budget, me on a diet, it’s gonna be tough but we can do it!

I suddenly realised that my silhouette wasn’t quite so sylphlike as I imagined. I’ve signed up for SparkPeople, just a couple of weeks ago. So far I’ve lost 6lbs with a target of 1lb a week. It’s free, lots of resources, and it seems to be working. Email if youwant more details. You’re the first person I’ve told…. I bet I’ve got more to lose than you 🙂
Janine says
Good on you – this is hard but we can do it!!!!!

I always thought those home delivered diet meals sounded kinda awesome – not having to think about what’s for dinner, not having to cook other people’s dinner… as long as the food is fresh and tasty. I got a pedometer for Mother’s Day (don’t worry, I requested it), and thought I’d try to attempt 10,000 steps a day. That is actually quite hard to reach when you are working at a computer most days. But if you set a target of 6,000 steps a day for example, it is quite motivating and is spread out across the day. Good luck Janine!
Janine says
The convenience is awesome and the food has been quite good. So maybe I need a pedometer.

well, janine, i’m all for good health. but a strict diet? you are so much more than your weight. your idea of going outside and just walking (quickly!) with a pedometer is great! exercise is the answer – you might even give the treadmill a second try. or the elliptical. do you have those there? you can read a magazine, it’s inside, and if you work out hard enough to sweat, you’re doing great.
kind regards, n
