Recapturing The Magic?

December 8, 2012 By Janine 6 Comments

All right folks, need you to help me decide if this is a good thing or bad?

In my younger years Grease was my favourite movie and Olivia Newton John and John Travolta rocked the shows finale with You’re The One I Want – which went on to be one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Now, it’s almost 35 years later and the duo have reunited for a Christmas album.

They’ve released a single I Think You Might Like It.  Confident title eh?

I want to love it, I really do. But maybe it’s a little awkward? And  boot scootin’ country? Or maybe not? Maybe it’s cute? I like the little kid dancing.  I don’t know, my head hurts.

Is it advisable to try to recapture a magic that existed three decades ago?

So much has happened in their lives and ours since the heady days of Rydell High would it have been better to have left it there?

What do you reckon? Like the song?

Hmmmm. Awkward, it most certainly is. And I may have even cringed in places, just a little. The song’s okay, but I don’t think we’re looking at a sure-fire hit, you what I mean? It will be buried in the music library never to heard from again within weeks. Days, even.

And because I can’t help myself may I make a couple of shallow observations? John needs to lose that bit of fluff on his chin and I suspect Livvy has been a regular patient at the plastic surgeon’s.

    Rydell High, this definitely ain’t!

Oh my goodness. I can’t believe they did this. I think I’m going to try to forget that this happened. (I also mostly forget that Grease 2 happened.)

I never saw Grease 2 – I didn’t want it all to be ruined for me – then this came along!
