Someone asked me the other day why you would bother to start a blog?

It is a bit of a silly idea really, devoting time and energy to writing thousands and thousands of words which may, or may not, be read by others.

There’s no money in it, unless you manage to get yourself to the top echelon with something like 10,000 unique readers a day.

So what’s the point?

For me there were a few reasons.

• The years devoted to being a stay-at-home mum with a little home-based business meant I was out of the loop when it came to the on-line world. Social media, blogging, they had been almost non-existent when I left the workforce. On my return to the workforce I lost out on jobs because of that lack of knowledge.  So this is my way of filling the gap.
• I knew at 15 that I wanted to write, however, life got in the way and I went in an assortment of other directions. Blogging lets me write every day.

Since I’ve started blogging I’ve found a few other benefits along the way.

• Meeting other bloggers on-line, reading their blogs and watching them develop has been a great experience. It’s nice to realise that no matter where we are in the world we all go through the same challenges in dealing with daily life.
• Going public with my goals means I am feeling more committed to achieving whatever I have announced – and feeling the pressure of that let me tell you!
• The immediate reaction from “comments” and “likes” lifts my spirits every day – and helps give the blog it’s own shape – I can see pretty much instantly the posts that generate the most interest and gets me thinking about what is working and what’s not.

I don’t know where this blogging thing will go, but I do know I am enjoying every minute of creating it.
