Yesterday at soccer I overheard a young boy say to his team mates "I can't wait to get home and have my steak sandwich with caramelised onion". I didn't make that up he specifically mentioned the onion was CARAMELISED. At the risk of sounding like a boring old fart, back in my day it was a sanger banged on a bit of bread with a squirt of tomato … [Read more...]
Dressed to Impress (Or Not)
Vanity Fair has just released its list of best dressed, surprisingly I am not on it. I don't know how they could possibly have missed my classic pairing of Mix trousers with Target tops. It's all well and good to be considered stylish when your budget is unlimited but I'd like to see what those dames could do with a hundred bucks for a seasonal … [Read more...]
Letter from a Country Bumpkin
Well it's official I'm a country bumpkin. I'm in Sydney. It's not going well. Spent the morning driving around Surry Hills trying to find (a) the conference venue and then (b) a car park which was then followed by a long stint fighting with the parking meter which didn't like any of my three credit cards (yes I have three credit cards but … [Read more...]
Weekly Photo Challenge – Foreshadow
This week's photo challenge is foreshadow. This particular photo from my brother seems particularly ominous. Hope you are all enjoying your day wherever you are in the world. In fact, where in the world are you? Feel free to leave in the comments where you live, it would be fascinating to know the variety of places we all come … [Read more...]
Things My Mother Never Had To Deal With
Earlier this year Rachel over at The Kids Are All Right did a survey of her readers. When she asked who they turned to for parenting advice this is what she found. In last year’s Changing Face of Motherhood Report (undertaken by Proctor & Gamble), mums sought parenting help from their own mothers first, ahead of all other resources. In … [Read more...]
Weekend Wrap 28/07/2013
How is your weekend panning out? Ours involved the usual soccer games on Friday night and Saturday morning followed by a two-day Harry Potter marathon. Princess Child decided it was IMPERATIVE that she watch EVERY Harry Potter film again THIS WEEKEND. I think we have three more to go. I still love Hermoine, seriously those boys would have been … [Read more...]
Choices, Chances and Life’s Big Lottery
It's hard work this helicopter mum thing. Seriously, all this hovering is EXHAUSTING. Those of you with young children who are just in the "keep 'em safe, don't let 'em do anything dangerous" stage of helicopter mothering, let me tell you when you get to the final years of high school it takes on a whole new level of demanding! Last night was … [Read more...]
Naming the Royal Baby
Well in my temporary retirement I'm rapidly crossing potential careers off the list. Apparently Royal Psychic is out of the question. I predicted a baby girl, born at 2.25 pm (London time) and weighing 2500 gram (5.5 pounds). Instead a boy arrived at 4.24pm with a weight of 8lbs 6oz. However, we've still got the name to come. I'd voted for … [Read more...]
We Just Need A Good Laugh
I'm not exactly rocking this stay-at-home gig. The children were late to school this morning because, as the Princess Child berated, "everyone thinks because we are getting driven to school you can all move slower - you CAN'T". I feel for the child, she was clearly born into the wrong household, as she sits fully dressed, bag packed, notes signed … [Read more...]
Working Options
It's been over seven years since I was last a stay-at-home Mum. When you are chained to an office, knee-deep in work deadlines and fighting off texts from your children about the latest crisis - there's no food in the house - I missed the bus - I forgot my art project - you tend to get a rosy glow about being at home. You remember the flexibility, … [Read more...]
