We took a day trip to Ellenborough Falls at Elands last week.
Princess Child wanted to take photographs so we navigated the two hour drive from Port Macquarie over a large stretch of winding, dirt road, because you know I like to support my children’s ambitions.
At 200 metres, Ellenborough Falls is one of the longest single drop waterfalls in the Southern Hemisphere. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the bottom (and about 45 minutes to get back up) I think there was about 600 steps along the way. I read the signage and decided to simply enjoy the view from the top – look give me flat ground and lots of shop windows to look at and I can walk for hours but frankly I’ve always thought this nature stuff was overrated!
The girls headed off, much later feeling a little guilty over my lack of participation I thought I might see if I could make it to the next lookout point. I didn’t get far before I met my children coming in the opposite direction.
With a face of beetroot red Princess Child told me to “stop, it’s bloody hard” snatched the water from my hand and trundled past me. The Hippie Child who had been planning a camping trip there with her boyfriend mumbled “don’t think I want to camp here, I don’t want to have to do that walk again”.
The girls had reached the bottom, and photos were taken. However, Hippie Child had managed to lose the water bottle on the first rest stop (on the way down). I don’t think I’d volunteer either of them for a Survivor competition. To be fair it was an exceptionally hot day but clearly they have spent a little too much time on the lounge watching Vampire Diaries rather than doing anything physical.
But look it wasn’t wasted effort we now know that Nature Photographer is probably not going to in Princess Child’s future … perhaps Fashion Photographer might be a little more up her alley.
But look if you are into nature and everything you would love it – you can find out more here.
In the meantime here’s the photos achieved through all this effort.
