I hope all the dads, granddads and stepdads out there had a great day yesterday. I hope you were surrounded by love and everyone laughed at your silly jokes just to make you feel good.
It’s kinda scary, there are some guys who read this blog, some who I even know in real life, every time I start on about menopause, my boob size or other “too much information” posts I’m sure they will give up in despair, but it appears not. They must ignore those posts and wait around until I get slightly appropriate again.
Well, I think I’ll get T-Shirts printed “We Survived The First Father’s Day”.
Our original plan was to ignore the day entirely and simply hibernate at home but school camp is on tomorrow and we hadn’t done the shopping for it. Surprisingly Hippie Child insisted on coming along to support her sister. You see Princess Child needed new bras and according to Hippie Child it is an embarrassment to go bra shopping with me, I pick all the “old lady” bras.
After shopping we stupidly decided to go to lunch, our first four choices were closed, and we couldn’t get into the next one. So we ended up at our old favourite,Yum Cha. Which was delicious.
We all felt exhausted, seriously this emotional crap really takes it out of you. So it was a quiet afternoon at home afterwards.
We watched Doctor Who and I wondered what Simon would have thought have this new Doctor.
In the end it was just another day, still sad, still feeling his absence, but that’s our every day at the moment.

Thinking of you & your girls Janine, I have been told by a friend that the anticipation and emotional stuff is often worse than when the reality of the day actually comes around. Take care of yourself xx
Janine says
Yes Lisa that is exactly what happened!!!

I was thinking of you yesterday, and a few other dear friends who have lost their soulmates recently. These days can be so difficult, but I’m glad you were able to spend it together – and survive!

Milestones like that are always hard; especially the first time around. Glad you got through it okay with your lovely daughters.

I agree with what your friend Lisa said, above, about the anticipation of the milestone, and I’m so glad this one is behind you. Been thinking about you all so much, and I’m so inspired by the humor you still manage to infuse your deepest moments of sadness. XO

Phew, you made it. Good for all of you – I’m sure it wasn’t easy.
In other words, that was very nice of Hippie Child to offer to go bra shopping – I can’t guarantee that I would have done the same for my sister.
