Weekend Notes – Sunrise

March 16, 2014 By Janine 6 Comments

The Princess Child and her father decided they would do a sunrise excursion this morning for a spot of photography and fishing.

When the girls were little they were happy to build things with their Dad, ride the home made billy carts, go bicycling, run around the footy oval. But now they are teenagers it’s harder to drag them out of the house to spend time with anyone!

This activity combined his love of fishing with her developing interest in photography, win/win.

What father/daughter activities did you do as a kid?

How lovely, I hope they can keep it going. I didn’t do a lot with my dad, especially not as a teen, but I do remember tagging along with him as a small child when he was working on the farm – sitting in the back of the truck when they were distributing drought food for the sheep, or hanging about in the shearing shed, or, most memorably, jumping around in the cow bales while he was milking the house cow and falling into the pit that collected all the water … etc. … that he hosed off the floor.

Thank you for sharing your memories – farmers – the original “work at home” dads.

Yes, I think children of farmers get to see a lot more of their dads.

I was a poor farm girl in rural South Dakota so spent a ton of time tagging along around the farm with my dad and loved every minute of it. Because of it I’m pretty handy with a hammer or changing a tire, can drive almost anything (with a few minutes of tutorial) and can thank him for my marksmanship skills as on Sunday afternoons we would go for Sunday drive about the country and “gopher hunt”. I’m still pretty good with a rifle and did well while in the military in that department! Thanks dad…he’s 77 now and I turn 50 this summer and he still stops to visit almost every day! Cherished memories!

Beautiful photos, Child! Nature put on a show that morning, didn’t she?

Time together is so wonderful. Hope all are well and happy at your house, N
