Now the weather is getting warmer we can once again get out on our back deck. It has a view of the only remaining piece of undeveloped land in our area and we’ve got our fingers crossed it doesn’t get developed for a few more years. It’s our version of living on acreage, except it’s the look but don’t touch kind. We can’t actually have that horse the Hippie Child has always wanted but we can watch someone elses cows munching away.
The back deck provides a peaceful retreat when the unfinished, untidy house is getting you down.
I’ve taken to having my morning coffee out there and even moved made it my “office” on nice, wind-free days. (When the southerly blows up it becomes hurricane alley, but let’s focus on the nice, sunny days).
We can watch the kangaroos hop by at sunset and the local bird life pays regular visits.
When I think about it every place I have ever lived I’ve had a favourite spot. (OK I’ll admit there for a while when the kids were little it was the toilet, it was the only room with a lock on it and sometimes I may have escaped there for a bit of peace when clinging toddlers were sending me insane) However, aside from that little divergence – it’s usually a little nook which catches the sunlight at a particular time of day – a corner of the lounge room with a comfy chair, a back step with a view of the water in the distance, a tiny front verandah with a Frangipani tree in front. Little peaceful sanctuaries of escape that just have “something” about them that calms you.
Do you have a favoured spot where you escape to in your home?

Looks so peaceful, beautiful pics again from Princess Child. My favourite place in my unit is to sit in my mum’s old recliner near the balcony doors. It gets full sun in the morning and is light all day, and I can see the tops of trees – although also all the rooves of neighbouring units, but I try and ignore them. City living, sigh. Sometimes though we get birds on the balcony. There’s a big flock of sulphur crested cockatoos in the inner west and one will occasionally drop by to uproot my plants. Thanks for a timely reminder of peace & nature.

Love that your favourite space includes a link to your mum.

Gorgeous pics of your lovely landscape! We too have acquired a ‘pet’ kookaburra who visits daily for snacks and sits on our deck’s railing, waiting expectantly 🙂
My favourite retreat is a gazebo in our garden – not flash but I can almost pretend that I’m not immersed in suburbia!

A gazebo sounds lovely.

So gorgeous! Wish we could spend more time on our far less picturesque deck but the mozzie are ferocious!
Janine says
The mozzies are a pain!!! Not too bad here at the moment.

As beautiful as I remember your backyard…and Oh how I love the Kookaburra’s! Tell David his niece’s photography rivals his…just breathtaking. My parents, my aunt, and my sister, her husband and my nephew are all going to Australia for my nieces graduation in December. You have no idea how much I wish I could visit again. Just love your town and country! 🙂

One day Kim you will get back here, and get a chance to see even more of the country. BTW your granddaughter is beautiful – I’ve been seeing the photos on FB.
