Remember when I worked out my bucket list and one of the items on the list was set foot on each of the seven continents? There isn’t the faintest possibility of that happening, not while we are living in a financial black hole of casual jobs and owner building. So imagine my surprise when I saw My Destination’s Biggest Baddest Bucket List competition. A round the world trip, all expenses paid, six months, six continents. It was fate. Meant to be. It was MINE.
I got all excited and was determined to enter. That was two months ago.
Then I got cold feet. We can’t go away for six months. There’s a mortgage. Kids in high school. We’d have to figure out how to finance those kids coming (prize is all-inclusive for one with a friend’s airfares and accommodation included as well). It’s just a fantasy.
It rained for weeks on end, there was flooding. Trying to record a video highlighting the beauty of my town was a little difficult when it was underwater.
I gave up. But Princess Child didn’t. She wants to go to Paris and by God she is going to get there. Her bags were packed and she was trying to sort out passports when she realised we hadn’t actually entered. Well the organised one got us all into gear.
Three days before the competition closed we were filming on the iPad at Flynns Beach.
It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. The Princess Child struggles to keep a straight face on camera. The Hippie Child does silly walking every time we try to get a “walking along the beach shot”. Mr Shambles offers an ominous sounding invitation to come on a fishing trip which would make John Jarratt in Wolf Creek appear friendly. While I have enough bags under my eyes to be the sister of Jon English.
However, we got something together and you can see it over at My Destination given we only got it up in the closing moments of the competition we are not going to the next level on votes. However, the judges are selecting five entries to go on alongside the five most popular via the voting system, so we are desperately hoping that’s our chance!
We may be hoping for an Easter miracle, but you just never know.
Perhaps there are times when you just have to jump on in and have a shot, figuring it out as you go.
Now, for your viewing pleasure, here’s what didn’t make it into our showreel!

Oh how wonderful to see you and the girls and my goodness how they’ve grown. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that I visited but I guess it has been 3 years now! Crazy how time flies. Loved the video…how great your girls are! Hope you win!!!!
Janine says
They are so grown up since you saw them last. The youngest is at high school now, and the eldest only has two more years of school after this one!
