I just spent two days in a castle with chandeliers dripping from the ceiling. Prince Charming wasn’t in attendance, although there was a Daddy Blogger who had ripped his shirt off by the end of proceedings, a brave thing to do in a room full of women!
Here’s some of what I learnt.
- Slow blogging could be an emerging trend. Longer but fewer posts.
- There are some amazing women in the world who have survived the most awful events to craft a future that gives hope and support to others.
- Blogging has power.
- Having it all is probably an impossible paradigm, and NOBODY is really getting there including the blokes.
- In order to be a writer you have to WRITE. (duh)
- An agent is a good idea if you have written a book, they take care of your entire career not just the one book and they are your go-between in dealing with the publishing company.
- Your image is important when you are trying to establish a new career in writing. Be strategic. Everything you do and say on your blog, twitter etc represents who you are.
- Extra income can come from creating your own products – use your stats, search terms used to find your blog, most popular posts – to determine a product people would be willing to purchase from you.
- The Prime Minister is human after all, well she is when Eden interviews her . It was the most natural and straight forward we’ve seen the PM.
- Trolls and hate readers are an unfortunate by-product of success. Block and delete. Don’t feed the beast. It hurts when people dislike your blog but be confident in who you are and proud of what you produce and don’t let other people’s insecurities deter you from what you want to achieve.
Thanks for the great company Rachel, The Kids Are All Right , Sarah, What Sarah Did Next, Becci from Birdy Num Num and Lisa from The Wine Muse and everyone else who I crossed paths with over the two days.

That’s quite an ability to take a couple of dozen presentations and millions of word spoken and distil them into a line each. You should be a writer! 🙂 xx

Hi Janine,
Thanks for linking to my post. I’m not sure if we met personally but I guess you came to my talk and it sounds like we attended a few of the same ones together. I left feeling honoured to be part of such a group of inspirational women.
Looks like you’re doing great things here so stick with it – I hope your blogging journey is long, rich and fun 🙂

It was wonderful to meet you too Jules, of course I remember you particularly your compelling “My Blog, My Story”, you are one of the women I am speaking of in the line “There are some amazing women in the world who have survived the most awful events to craft a future that gives hope and support to others.” You are incredible. I see you have posted your speech on your blog, I will add it into the links in my post.
