Dear Hippie Child
It’s very late at night but I’m still up because the school has given me homework and I’m in trouble because I haven’t got it done.
They wrote to us asking us to write a letter for you to receive on camp telling you why we love you, your best attributes and what we hope for your future.
They have already rung asking where it is and I promised to have it to them today (oops missed the extended deadline). So here I am in the middle of the night trying to finish my assessment task – like mother like daughter.
Seriously, could I have not referred you to shambolicliving.com and the birthday post when you turned 15 and again when you turned 16? Apparently not.
So here I am handwriting in a messy, tired script but we’ll battle on in the hope you can read it. (Blog readers just imagine messy handwriting at this point).
Why do I lov…… and the pen ran out of ink – as usual it’s all going well.
Anyway, I’ve found a new pen – why do I love you? Because I’m your mother and it’s in the contract. Not good enough? You want more? Well I love you because you are a fascinating person, thoughtful and kind. You have maturity beyond your years. You are able to handle yourself in any group of people – rich or poor – old or young – you engage with everyone and treat everyone with respect.
What special qualities do I admire and love in you? I adore your humour, I love the way you think for yourself and come up with your ideas on people and situations. I also love your beautiful singing voice.
Oh God I just realised I lost the first page I wrote. Five minutes I looked for it only to discover I was sitting on it. So I’m sending you an imprint of my bum on the first page. Sorry about that.
What hopes do I hold for your future? I hope you will get to follow your passion – whatever that may be. I hope you will find someone wonderful to travel with on this mad journey through life. I hope you grow up to enjoy my company as an adult – that I’m not to big a burden and you will come home to visit often.
I hope that wherever you end up you will always be friends with your sister – she’s the only one who will understand the scars you bear from being raised in this crazy household.
I hope you find a way to live comfortably without worrying about how to pay the bills while pursuing the passion I talked about earlier.
I hope you never forget to laugh and remember that whatever life throws in your way you will get through it because you are resilient and smart.
All my love,
Mum xxxoooxxx
PS Can I blog this? No, alright I know the answer is no. What about if I bribe you? Can we not negotiate a deal?

Seriously. Nobody asked what the deal was yet? What’d you have to do ? 🙂

She ended up saying I could do it without asking for anything – although the next weekend she did get a very expensive pair of boots – so she bides her time!
