Forgive me readers for I have sinned, it has been four days since my last confession post.
Felled by a migraine I spoke in tongues, felt ill and frankly did not want to deal with the fact I was CHANGING the blog.
Moving from a wordpress.com to a self-hosted site has proven to be a little stressful, given my level of technical ability is zero!
But ploughing on, this is just a quick little hello to let you know I will be back to posting properly from tomorrow.
In the meantime I’m trying to locate my wordpress.com subscribers I seem to have misplaced a hundred or so of you, if by some miracle one of you is reading this could you flick me a comment letting me you are still getting the feeds. Email subscribers appear to be fine and should not have missed any posts.
This people is why I don’t like change. Sitting in the peaceful serenity of the comfortable it seems ridiculous to have ventured into unknown territory, lacking both the skills and equipment for the terrain. Yet here I am. Completely unsure of whether this is a good idea or not.
Perhaps I’m getting old? Change wasn’t this scary in the past.
How’s life at your place this week? Any big changes in the wind? Are you one who embraces the new, always ready for the next adventure?
Meanwhile I will let Bowie serenade me as I try to unravel the secrets of “plug-ins” – trust me you don’t want to know.

I had signed up about a week ago and seem to have transitioned over. I have a self hosted site too, took me about a month to figure out how to set it up, you seem to have done it just fine!

Isn’t it a pain? There’s a few things from wp.com I’m going to miss – the “like this post” button for instance – still trying to find a replacement plug in for that!

I had the same problem! After trying out a few options, I’m using a plugin called “WTI Like Post”. It’s a simple Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down option that can appear on each post. It’s not the same as getting to see the gravatars of people who like your posts, but it at least allows readers to give some feedback if they don’t want to write out a comment.

Hi, it was a bumpy ride, but I found you. Was a bit upset when I first got the message that the page did not exit but then I clicked on home and there you were!
Good luck with your new venture!

wow, janine, it’s really beautiful! congratulations!
also i agree with you about the executive skills needing to be taught in schools. AND that the internet is a hurt instead of a help. don’t you find you can sit down to find one fact, and lose hours. one idea – try encyclopedia britannica online. http://www.eb.com. our school bought a subscription, and it’s a safe, one-stop site for kids’ research. they have elementary, middle school, and high school. joy to you!

Glad you’re back.

Hang in there, moving your blog is hard work and it killed my blog mojo when I moved from blogger to wordpress {self hosted}. It was jsut such a brain strain. Then one day, it came back, the world made sense and now I’m glad I made the move.
Picture that hang in there cat. You can do this!
Janine says
Thank you it’s much more of a struggle than I anticipated, I’m clinging to you words that it will get better!

Ugh – report back. It’s something I keep thinking about, but it stresses me out. Good luck!!

At the moment it’s completely stressful. I left wp.com because the commenting system had problems (although at the moment I still have the same commenting system). I’m unable to download plugins to make a few changes and it is bugging me no end. Another blogger commented she lost her blogging mojo when she did it and I certainly have. I’m also really disappointed that I lost all my wp.com followers (they can transfer over your email followers with the Jetpack plugin which I’ve done) but your wp.com followers can’t be transferred and because I didn’t realise that I didn’t even get a message to them that I was moving and now there is no way of seeing who they were! Hopefully, if I can get it set up the way I want then I can just go back to writing and not worry too much about the technical stuff.

Bowie is my favorite! Especially that time period. I moved from Blogger to WordPress and it was stressful. Still is. It’s only been four months. But, little-by-little, it’s getting better. And I’m not a techie. Not at all. In fact a friend helped me build my blogger post. But I had to do the WordPress thing on my own. uff!
Nice to meet you! btw. 🙂
