Time Travelling

August 12, 2012 By Janine 5 Comments

Last night we went time travelling in the Tardis. Well OK we got in the Toyota and went to one of the local clubs. HOWEVER, it was pretty clear for a couple of hours we were heading back to our formative years.

The time when hair was permed, shoulder pads were broad, leg warmers were hip (don’t ask me why, it was Olivia Newton John’s fault alright) and we were young with life ahead of us.

Playing the club were Brian Mannix (Uncanny X Men), Scott Carne (Kids in the Kitchen) and Dale Ryder (Boom Crash Opera).

Admittedly they never used to start gigs with “glad to see you all got babysitters” but nonetheless with children notably absent middle-aged parents found their groove again for just a little while.

There was a surreal moment listening to Mannix sing the hit he admits “bought him a house”, 50 Years. The last time I heard him sing this number live 50 years seemed like a lifetime away. I was single and childless and probably in my first job. Now, we’re halfway there, the future is no longer a free-wheeling adventure to be unwrapped. It is a little more set. There are three other people in the equation to consider before I make any decision. There have been dreams ditched along the way, others unexpectedly discovered.

The world has changed. Who could have imagined in 2012 we would  be photographing the performance on our phones! Or that I would go home and write about the experience in a thing called a blog and share it with the world on the internet!

It is a different time. We are all older. But watching Mannix shake his skinny hips, Ryder give his cute smile and Carne unleash his sultry pouts it was clear these old rockers still know how to work a room.

The joys of being part of the ‘more mature’ set! They were terrific years though!

My first comment was lost- I am hopelessly inept in this new centuries technology. Love your stuff- funny, honest and well written. I know awards can be a pain to fulfill BUT I am finishing the requirements VERY slowly. I hearby award you the Versatile Blogger Award.
