I have used a smiley face in an SMS this week. I sometimes say SMS rather than text. I only started working in education at the end of 2012 and I don’t think I should think about retiring given I’ve just started out.

I briefly felt offended when work colleagues were talking an out their fiftieths in the next year or so and they thought I was the same age as them. I thought that the contestants on the biggest loser should be grateful to mark it to 50 or 60 but then realized my grandmother is still alive at 88 so 50 isn’t really a good innings. I’m not sure if I’m just getting older or stranger.

Just as an FYI, I agree with 2 and 3 on this list… as for number 1, well, I’ll go the extra mile for a smiley face. How else am I supposed to flirt through a text message?

Yes, all sounding very familiar, except I still do smileys. 🙂 But you will really feel old when you realise the prime minister is younger than you are (which happened to me with Rudd. I also now have a worrying impulse to call young women girls, which I never had before I hit my 40s.
