When I was in highschool I was an A grade student. My parents wouldn’t let me do what I loved (photography, art etc) they wanted me to do what I “should” be doing. Business studies, etc etc etc. I desperately wanted to be a writer. Even got offered a job when I was in Uni at a newspaper, but no I didn’t take it I stuck to my business degree (for a while)
I absolutely get that they thought they were doing the right thing, but guess what I’m returning to uni to do now all those years later. Bachelor of Arts!
The way I see it, we could train our children to be lawyers, and if it’s not their passion they will still end up as broke dropouts, we could encourage them to do what they love and they could be happy and earn enough income to surive, or even be a raging success, but no matter, they would be happy.
There’s much more to success in life than society’s perception, and I say encourage them to follow their hearts, it’s the best path to happiness 🙂 xxx
